Aurora Borealis Adventures dog team course
One week dog team course. We pick you up from either Umeå or Lycksele airport, or from Umeå, Lycksele or Vännäs railway station, and go from there by car to Ekorrsele. Once there you will be housed together with no more than 4 other people. The houses are fully equipped with kitchen, toilet and shower. Your first day will among other things include: A short theory session and mush a team of 8 12 dogs pulling a large sled. The rest of the week will include both theoretical and practical events. You will tend to 4-5 dogs "of your own" during the whole week. This includes feeding and training the dogs and keeping the dog pen clean and tidy. During this week you will have learned a lot about dog sledding, tying ropes, feeding the dogs, competing, dogs illnesses, the sleds, harnesses, different species of dogs etc. We will also make visits to different dogsledders to watch and learn from them. If weather permits you will mush six out of seven days, and the trips will vary between 15 and 45 kilometres. Sometimes we require headlamps in order to see, since it happens that we make trips during the dark hours. All trips are made through the extraordinary wilderness of "Norrland" (North Sweden), where it is likely that we see Swedish Moose and Reindeer. Towards the end of the week you will also pack "your" sleds for a longer mush with an overnight stay in a forest cabin or a tent. This adventure is, by many, seen as the highlight of the week. The tour is rounded off with a warm sauna and a spa, followed by a 3 course dinner with wine. The dinner is served in our lappkåta (Sami hut) back at the "vildmarkscamp" (Wilderness camp). This course will be held week 2, 5 and 8 during 1999. If these weeks should be fully booked, we can arrange for yet another week. If you need assistance in how to get to one of our pick up spots, please call us and we will help you. Prices include: full pension, transfer, housing and clothes. 10 000 SEK
Best wishes /Maria and Donald
